# Installation of SPHY

SPHY v3.1 can only be installed at the moment as a stand-alone application, where the user can run the model from the command prompt. The earlier versions of SPHY 2.0 and 2.1 have Graphical User-Interfaces (GUI) as plugins and have the advantage that changing the model input and output, as well as changing model parameters, is more clear and user-friendly. The GUIs developed using [QGIS Geographical Information System (GIS) ](http://www.qgis.org/en/site/)are not available for the SPHYv3.1. Section 4.2 describes the installation of SPHY v3.1 as a stand-alone application. The main differences between SPHY 2.0/2.1 and SPHY v3.1 are that SPHY v3.1 includes a mass conserving glacier change routine, whereas 2.0/2.1 treats glaciers as static entities, and that SPHYv3.1 includes modules for soil erosion and sediment transport, which are not included in SPHY 2.0/2.1.
